Carlos Muñoz Portal, a location manager for Netflix’s hit show Narcos, was fatally shot in rural Mexico. According to El Pais reports, Portal was scouting for sites in a hostile region known for drug-related violence for the fourth season of hit drama series.
Carlos Muñoz, an industry veteran has served as a location manager for “Spectre,” “Sicario,” “Fast & Furious,” “Man on Fire”, “Apocalypto,” and many more series/films, Munoz went to do some solo scouting for the Netflix show in the violent, gang-filled Hidalgo state — which is located outside the metropolitan Mexico City. Hours later the body of Muñoz was discovered in a compact car on an unnamed dirt road.
One of the Muñoz’s friend suggested that the presence of an unfamiliar person with a camera could have had something to do with the tragedy. He mentioned that “Maybe they thought he was collecting information and they started tracking him in a car,”
Netflix acknowledged the event by releasing a statement which said, “We are aware of the passing of Carlos Muñoz Portal, a well-respected location scout, and send our condolences to his family. The facts surrounding his death are still unknown as authorities continue to investigate.”
